Suffolk Schools Regatta – Thursday 29th June

Alton Water is proud to again host the annual Suffolk Schools Regatta on Thursday 29th June.

This regatta could not be held without a great deal of help and organisation by many volunteers. Every year, every one of those volunteers feels it was all worth it to see the kids enjoy themselves and perform to the best of their ability. But most importantly, every year the kids love it; they love racing and racing for their school. They love the water, the atmosphere and have a great day out. For spectators too, the sight of many boats out on the water in all colours, shapes and sizes is a highlight of the year. So come on down and see the kids get away from their studies and compete at Alton Water for their school.

The Regatta Booking Pack is now available and can be found here.

The Schools Entry spreadsheet mentioned in the booking pack can be downloaded here .

The Notice of Race is also available here.

Sailing Instructions are available here .

Some customers are experiencing problems when trying to pay online for membership, dinghy park or courses.

We are working on solving these problems but in the meantime, if you’ve paid for any of the above via Paypal and have not received a confirmation email from us, it is likely that your payment has not been processed successfully.

If that’s the case, please either call into the office or call us (01473 328408) between 10am and 8pm (6pm at weekends) so that we can process your payment successfully. This is especially important if you’re booking training courses as course places are not reserved until successful payment has been received.

Race Pricing

After listening to our members and in direct support of the centre’s charitable aims to get more people out on to the water, after the end of the Spring Series, all dinghy racing (outside of Open Meetings, the Autumn Regatta, Lemons Hill Bridge Races and the Frostbite Series) will be free to members. Non-members of Alton Water will still be expected to pay the relevant visitor race entry fee or day membership
Further, day members (i.e. visitors) will be welco me and encouraged to join in our current evening racing and weekend Summer Series which have until now been strictly for members only.
2017 Alton Water Race Card holders can contact the office and will receive a 75% refund on their race card.
This has become possible simply because our members are now running and supporting the racing. Should we in future require to use paid staff to run racing again, charging for racing may have to be reinstated.

Thursday Night Mid-Week Mayhem Series 2017 – MEMBERS ONLY

The Alton Thursday Night Series (Mid-week Mayhem) starts on April 6th running until 25th May.
We would love to get lots of non-racers out with us for this fun series.
It’s handicap racing off one single start at 1800 and we generally finish at or before 1900.
It’s very social and great fun. Any sailing dinghies (or windsurfers) can take part.

We are happy to help with hire boats (speak to the centre) if you need something to sail and there will always be someone to help you understand racing, starting, basic rules and we will even volunteer to helm or crew for you if you need us to.

We do need volunteer OODs for each night (average points if you do it so it doesn’t affect your results), so come and try this too, it’s the best view of the races and a great way to learn in a safe environment.

Any questions at all ask at the Centre, or speak to Oli or Mark Smith, we are quite friendly so come along and have fun – it’s free but for Alton Water members only!
